God, Personal Jesus and Afterlife
God
Simple logic:
- Complexity grows over time. Example: humans create AI.
- You did not create yourself. Your parents did not create themselves either. Grandparents did not create themselves, and so on. Molecules did not create themselves, atoms did not create themselves - there was always a cause.
Within the described model, God is not something all-knowing and all-powerful, but something all-simple - the basic building block of the universe. Matter. This first cause and lawgiver defines the rules of the universe, and physics is its statistics. I describe its rules in the “Matter as Machine” section.
Personal Jesus
Personal Jesus, as I understand it, is something that can give you motivation and happiness. Within the described model this something is your instinct “to change the world”: It can reward you with happiness and punish with depression.
By punishment, I mean an automatic biological consequence, not a moral judgment or something a person deserves.
Afterlife
Some religions promise you an afterlife. Why does it “work”? Because this way they create an expectation of changes for the better, and that expectation itself lets you feel better (because of the way the instinct to change the world works). Religious afterlife is like a hamster’s wheel for humans: both make you feel better by satisfying an instinct.
Within the described model, we consist of simple beings - matter. When we die, our bodies disassemble, but the matter we consist of continues its “life” - execution. So there is an “afterlife”, but not for humans - for the matter we consist of.
And because within the described model all matter is conscious, our “consciousness” will not disappear, just disassemble. We will not remember, but we will exist.
